Researchers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Shanghai AI Laboratory have developed Dispider, a system that allows LLMs to actively interact with videos as they're playing, rather than waiting until the end to respond.

Current video AI systems typically need to watch an entire video before they can answer questions. Dispider changes this by:

  1. Processing videos in real-time

  2. Determining when it has enough information to respond

  3. Providing relevant answers while continuing to watch

This approach enables more efficient processing and better content understanding.

Microsoft has announced a $3 billion investment over the next two years to expand its Azure cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India. This marks the company’s largest expansion in the country to date.

The investment aims to:

Enhance Azure Cloud Services: By establishing new data centers, Microsoft plans to bolster its cloud capabilities to meet the growing demand for AI and cloud-based applications in India.

Upskill the Workforce: Microsoft intends to train 10 million Indians in AI skills by 2030, building on the 2.4 million individuals upskilled last year.

This initiative underscores India’s significance as a key growth market for technology, given its large pool of skilled professionals and cost advantages. Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, highlighted India’s contributions to AI projects, noting that the country is projected to have the largest developer community by 2028.

This move aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy, as the company plans to invest $80 billion in AI-enabled data centers globally in fiscal year 2025.

Google DeepMind is forming a new team dedicated to developing “world models”—AI systems capable of simulating physical environments. Led by Tim Brooks, a former co-lead of OpenAI’s Sora project, this initiative aims to create generative models that can produce interactive virtual worlds for applications in video games, movies, and robotics training.

World models represent a significant advancement in AI, enabling the simulation of real-world scenarios that can be used for various purposes, including:

Interactive Media: Generating real-time environments for video games and films, enhancing user experience with dynamic and responsive settings.

Robotics Training: Providing realistic scenarios for robots and AI systems to learn and adapt, improving their performance in real-world tasks.

This development aligns with Google’s broader objective to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI). The new team will address challenges such as large-scale training, data curation, and integration with multimodal language models. Their work is expected to complement existing Google AI projects, including the Gemini AI models, Veo video generator, and the Genie world model.

NVIDIA has announced early access to an enhanced version of their AI Blueprint, specifically designed for video search and summarization capabilities.

Why is this a big deal? Because:

> 1.5 billion enterprise cameras are deployed globally

> They generate 7 trillion hours of video annually

> Less than 1% of industrial camera footage is watched by humans

> Manufacturers are losing trillions to quality issues that could be caught early

The new blueprint features 30x faster batch video processing compared to real-time viewing.
