NVIDIA Releases Small Language Model With State-of-the-Art Accuracy

NVIDIA has introduced a new small language model named Mistral-NeMo-Minitron-8B-Base. It is small enough to run on your laptop but powerful enough to lead across nine major benchmarks.

The model is optimized for low latency, ensuring faster responses for users and higher computational efficiency in production.  

Mistral-NeMo-Minitron 8B is available as an NVIDIA NIM microservice or can be downloaded on Hugging Face. Plus, more options are coming soon!

Microsoft AI Releases Phi 3.5 mini

Microsoft has just released a trio of new open-source models in their Phi-3.5 series. These models are impressively outperforming some larger models from Meta, Mistral, and Google in key areas.

Phi-3.5 Mini - with 3.82 billion parameters, is all about speed and efficiency. It’s perfect for tasks requiring quick reasoning, such as coding and solving math problems.

Phi-3.5 MoE - uses a "Mixture of Experts" approach, integrating multiple specialized models into one.

Phi-3.5 Vision - watch for anything involving images and text, whether it’s summarizing videos, analyzing charts, or interpreting images.

DeepMind Workers Sign Letter in Protest of Google’s Defense Contracts

Some workers at DeepMind, a company owned by Google, have signed a letter protesting Google's involvement in defense contracts.

They are concerned about the ethical implications of using AI for military purposes and are asking for more transparency and accountability.

The workers want to ensure that the AI they help develop is not used in ways that could harm people, reflecting ongoing debates about the role of technology in warfare.

Groq Unveils Distil-Whisper: A Smaller, Faster, and More Accurate Speech Recognition Model

It runs at 240x real-time speed and is 51% smaller than Whisper Large V3. Despite its smaller size, it maintains nearly the same accuracy, making it a powerful tool for real-time applications.

The model shows significant improvements in handling noise and reducing errors, with a 2.1% reduction in insertion errors and fewer repeated word duplicates.
