OpenAI Unveils 'Deep Research' Agent

OpenAI’s new Deep Research agent autonomously synthesizes complex, multi-step research into detailed reports with citations.

OpenAI’s latest tool, Deep Research, is designed to tackle expert-level research tasks by autonomously scouring, analyzing, and summarizing vast amounts of online data. Unlike traditional search engines, it delivers structured, well-cited reports—saving hours of manual work.

Mistral AI just launched Mistral-Small-24B-Instruct-2501, a 24B-parameter LLM optimized for speed, efficiency, and local deployment under the Apache 2.0 license.

AI Creates a Glowing Protein in Hours (Nature Would Need 500 Million Years!)

Scientists have used AI to design a glowing protein that nature would’ve taken half a billion years to evolve.

This AI-created protein, esmGFP is only 58% similar to its closest natural counterpart—but it still glows like jellyfish proteins!

Researchers trained an AI model on 2.78 billion proteins, using one trillion teraflops of computing power.

Instead of waiting on nature’s slow genetic mutations, the AI simulated evolution in hours, unlocking new possibilities for medicine, bioengineering, and even carbon capture.

New AI Training Method Enhances LLM Reasoning with Structured Critique Learning

Researchers from the University of Waterloo, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and the Vector Institute have introduced Critique Fine-Tuning (CFT).

Unlike traditional supervised fine-tuning, which relies on imitation learning, CFT enables models to critically assess and refine their own responses, leading to more logical and accurate outputs.

How CFT Works

> Researchers compiled 50,000 critique samples using GPT-4o to help models identify and correct response flaws.

> During training, a model receives a query, an initial response, and a critique evaluating the response’s accuracy and logical coherence.

> Models are optimized to generate critiques, reinforcing a deeper analytical process rather than just reproducing correct answers.

CFT-trained models outperform traditionally trained LLMs across multiple reasoning benchmarks.
