University of Cologne Develops AI Tool to Transform Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Whole-slide image processing example for lung cancer diagnosis, showing different tissue types, including tumor, stroma, necrosis, and lung tissue, identified and color-coded by an AI-powered platform developed by the University of Cologne.

AI Tool Analyzing Lung Tissue Samples for Cancer Diagnosis

A research team from the University of Cologne has developed a new AI-powered platform that is changing how we diagnose lung cancer.

This platform enables fully automated, highly accurate analysis of tissue samples, making the diagnostic process faster and more precise than ever.

Dr. Yuri Tolkach, who led the study, highlighted that the platform doesn’t just diagnose—it can also predict how a patient is responding to treatment. This could lead to more effective, individualized care for lung cancer patients.

Currently, the platform is undergoing validation with institutions in Germany, Austria, and Japan, demonstrating its potential for broad adoption.

Meet AuraFace: A New Open-Source Tool for AI and Facial Recognition

Comparison of facial recognition models using different sample approaches, including Triplet, Tuplet, ArcFace, and Sub-center ArcFace, showing local and global comparisons in AI facial recognition techniques.

Comparison of Facial Recognition Models

The world of AI and facial recognition just got a new open-source player: AuraFace.

AuraFace is similar to the well-known ArcFace model but without any licensing restrictions, making it easier for businesses and developers to use in their projects.

AuraFace is built on the resnet100 architecture, similar to ArcFace, allowing for a direct comparison in performance metrics.

Alongside AuraFace, the AuraFace IP-Adapter was introduced to ensure identity consistency in image generation tasks. This tool is perfect for maintaining a subject's core identity across different media.

AuraFace is now available on HuggingFace, with dedicated endpoints at fal.ai/lora for easy integration.

Oxford Researchers Launch MedGraphRAG to Make AI Better at Medical Questions

Researchers from the University of Oxford have introduced MedGraphRAG, designed to improve Large Language Models (LLMs), like GPT-4 in the medical field.

It addresses one of the biggest challenges LLMs face—contextual accuracy in medicine. MedGraphRAG's approach connects important medical entities, such as diseases and treatments, to reliable knowledge bases.

MedGraphRAG outperforms state-of-the-art models across multiple medical Q&A benchmarks.

Arizona State University Speeds Up Learning and Research with ChatGPT Edu

OpenAI

In February 2024, Arizona State University (ASU) asked faculty and staff to come up with ways to use ChatGPT to improve teaching, learning, and research, and to create a better work environment.

The response was incredible, with many creative ideas submitted during the university's "AI Innovation Challenge," surprising even their CIO, Lev Gonick.

Just one semester later, ChatGPT is already being used in over 200 projects across campus, involving everyone from professors to student researchers and undergraduates, showing ASU’s commitment to enhancing education and research through AI.
