New Apple AI Features Delayed Until Later Than Expected

Apple plans to introduce Apple Intelligence for customers as part of software updates by October, a few weeks after the initial releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September.

Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images, and other content on demand, will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs with the M1 chip and newer versions.

This announcement comes after Apple delayed the launch of three new AI features in late June due to new European Union technology regulations.

Bloomberg reports that Apple Intelligence will be included in iOS 18.

๐Ÿ” AI Research: DreamCar

The "DreamCar" project by Xiaobiao Du and colleagues introduces a method to generate high-quality 3D car models from limited, in-the-wild images using the Car360 dataset with over 5,600 vehicles.

It employs geometric and appearance symmetry, and a novel pose optimization technique to enhance texture alignment and model accuracy.

The approach significantly outperforms existing methods and is particularly relevant for self-driving car simulations, virtual reality, gaming, and automotive design, providing efficient tools for creating detailed virtual assets.

Elon Musk Avoids Key Questions About Tesla Robotaxi Compliance and Design

Elon Musk is facing criticism for not providing details about Tesla's robotaxi design and its compliance with safety regulations.

During a recent earnings call, he avoided questions about whether the robotaxi will have essential controls like a steering wheel and pedals, which are required by law.

This uncertainty raises concerns about the vehicle's launch timeline and regulatory approval. Critics also doubt Tesla's ability to create a fully autonomous vehicle using just cameras.

These issues could impact investor confidence and delay the robotaxi's market release.

Apple Commits to AI Safety with White House Agreement

On July 26, 2024, Apple signed a voluntary agreement with the White House to enhance AI safety, joining 15 other major tech companies like Amazon and Google.

The commitment includes rigorous AI testing, sharing confidential information, and labeling AI-generated content.

This comes as Apple plans to launch its "Apple Intelligence" platform.

The move follows President Biden's executive order on AI safety, reflecting a broader trend towards responsible AI development amid regulatory and public concerns.

Google Thrives Amid Generative AI Boom

Google is thriving despite the rise of generative AI, with double-digit sales growth and dominance in the search market. Its cloud business surpassed $10 billion in quarterly revenue, fueled by AI interest.

Google has outperformed Microsoft as an investment over the past year.

Generative AI offers both opportunities and uncertainties for the workforce, boosting creativity but causing job security concerns.

As AI advances, prompt engineering becomes crucial. Google is expected to capture 70.5% of US traditional search ad spend by 2026.
