One Million Brain Scans Analyzed to Predict Dementia Risk

Scientists in Scotland are using over 1.6 million brain scans to study dementia risk.

Researchers from Edinburgh and Dundee universities will use AI to analyze these anonymous scans to find early signs of dementia. This is the first time such a large dataset has been available in the UK.

The goal is to develop tools for early detection, which could help people make lifestyle changes and access treatments sooner.

The project, called Scan-Dan, is part of a global effort to better understand and treat dementia. Researchers hope to have preliminary results by early next year.

The Grok-2 Models are Now Faster and More Accurate

Developers recently rewrote the inference code using SGLang, a cutting-edge system that enhances the speed and efficiency of language models.

This update has made Grok-2 mini twice as fast as before and improved the performance of the larger Grok-2 model, which now ranks impressively high on global AI leaderboards.

Grok-2 now holds the #2 spot on the Lmsys Chatbot Arena, just behind OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT-4o, while Grok-2 mini has climbed to #5. 

Notably, Grok-2 is top-ranked in mathematical tasks.

Meta Reality Labs Introduces Sapiens: A New Family of Models for Four Core Human-Centric Vision Tasks

Sapiens can accurately detect and predict human body postures in images, which is crucial for video surveillance, VR, and motion capture.

It segments human body parts with high precision, benefiting areas like medical imaging, virtual fitting, and animation. Sapiens predicts the orientation of surfaces, important for realistic 3D rendering and lighting effects.
