OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has firmly stated that OpenAI is “not for sale,” rejecting a $97.4 billion takeover bid led by Elon Musk.

Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, Altman emphasized OpenAI’s mission to develop AGI (artificial general intelligence) for the benefit of humanity and dismissed Musk’s attempt as a competitive maneuver.

Musk, who co-founded OpenAI but later left, claims he wants to return OpenAI to its non-profit roots, but critics question his motives, given that he owns rival AI company xAI. Despite the rejection, Musk’s legal team suggested they are open to increasing their offer.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is moving forward with The Stargate Project, a $500B AI infrastructure initiative backed by Oracle, Japanese investors, and an Emirati wealth fund. President Trump hailed it as the largest AI infrastructure project in history, though Musk has publicly doubted the project’s financial backing.

Apple is partnering with Alibaba to introduce its Apple Intelligence platform in China after reportedly rejecting potential deals with DeepSeek and ByteDance. Initially, Apple aimed to collaborate with Baidu, but technical challenges prevented the integration.

China remains a key market for Apple, but the lack of Apple Intelligence has contributed to an 11% drop in iPhone sales, with domestic brands like Huawei gaining ground. The Alibaba partnership comes ahead of the iPhone SE 4 launch, a crucial device for Apple in China and India.

Apple previously teamed up with OpenAI for its U.S. AI launch, integrating ChatGPT into Siri, and has expressed openness to future partnerships with AI firms like Google’s Gemini.

In his annual letter, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan named AI as one of the platform’s top priorities for 2025, emphasizing AI-powered tools for creators like video ideas, thumbnails, and auto dubbing. The language translation feature will roll out to all YouTube Partner Program creators this month, while AI-driven age detection will help provide age-appropriate content.

While some worry AI-generated content could dilute quality, others see it as a tool to enhance video production. YouTube is also expanding AI detection tools to protect creators from AI-generated likeness misuse, including a pilot program with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to identify and manage AI-generated content.

Beyond AI, YouTube’s other key bets for 2025 include solidifying its cultural impact, elevating YouTubers as entertainment industry leaders, and prioritizing TV-based viewing, which has now surpassed mobile in the U.S.

EU

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has unveiled a €200 billion initiative to accelerate AI research and development.

The plan focuses on industrial AI, regulatory efficiency, and public-private collaboration to position Europe as a global leader.

By cutting red tape and leveraging its strengths in industrial data and manufacturing, the EU aims to drive responsible AI innovation at scale.
