🍎 Apple at WWDC 2025: Big Developer Energy, Small AI Surprises

Apple

At WWDC 2025, Apple leaned into what it knows best: developers. While the world expected a bold leap into generative AI, Apple delivered a restrained rollout — focused more on tools, frameworks, and privacy than splashy AI showcases.

What stood out:

Foundation Models API: Apple’s homegrown AI framework is here — private, offline-capable, and Swift-friendly. But unlike GPT-4 or Gemini, it’s meant for on-device logic, not chat or image gen.

Xcode 26: Deep integration with third-party LLMs, voice control, and test auto-generation.

Subtle AI, Strong UX: Siri didn’t get a GPT makeover — but did get a backend overhaul for speed and continuity.

App Store Lawsuits loomed in the background as Apple worked to reassure devs it’s still pro-innovation.

The message? Apple’s not chasing the AI hype — it’s playing the long game with developer-centric infrastructure, local models, and secure intelligence.

🧠 Mistral Drops Two AI Reasoning Models — One Open, One Exclusive

Getty Images

Mistral just escalated the reasoning model race with a dual release: an open-source Magistral Small and an enterprise-focused Magistral Medium — both built for chain-of-thought logic and tool use.

What’s inside:

  • Magistral Small: 24B parameters, open-weight, and accessible on Hugging Face

  • Magistral Medium: Proprietary model for corporate integrations with enhanced accuracy and speed

  • Reasoning-first architecture: Both models break down tasks into logical steps and can plug into tools, databases, and APIs

  • Flash Answers: Inference speeds up to 10x faster than peer models

  • 8-language support and performance tuned for physics and mathematics

Mistral isn’t just offering chatbots — they’re offering thinking agents. And while the models are built differently than OpenAI’s black-box giants, they're designed for transparency, traceability, and speed.

🚗 Uber + Wayve Set to Launch Robotaxis in London

Wayve

In a bold move for UK mobility, Uber and Wayve have announced plans to launch robotaxis in London — thanks to fresh legislation that gives autonomous vehicles a green light across Britain.

What’s happening:

  • Wayve is a UK-based AV startup with an “embodied AI” approach — training self-driving systems that learn from real-world environments, not just rules.

  • Uber will deploy Wayve’s AI drivers in its app, blending human and autonomous fleets.

  • UK regulators have passed laws fast-tracking AV commercialization, giving companies a clear path to rollout starting 2026.

Why it matters:

This partnership marks a pivot point — not just for Uber’s automation play, but for AV progress in Europe.

The London launch could set the tone for global AV rollouts, especially in dense, regulation-heavy cities where Wayve’s learning-based model might outperform rule-based competitors.
