💀 Apps Are Dead. Here’s What’s Coming Next.
I’ll tell you where the smart money is going.

Goodbye Apps, Hello AI: A New Era of AI-Native Interfaces
AI has created a new shift in user interfaces.
Technology evolves to make interactions easier. We moved from command lines (CLIs) to graphical interfaces (GUIs), and then to touch-based systems. Now AI-native interfaces are the next step.
Instead of clicking apps or memorizing commands, users will simply talk, gesture, or type in natural language, and AI will handle the rest.
Terry Jones, founding CEO of Travelocity and chairman of Kayak, stated that “AI is the new UI.” This shift fundamentally changes how we interact with technology and presents major investment opportunities in AI, automation, and user experience.
The Evolution of Interfaces: From CLIs to AI
The way we interact with computers has evolved dramatically, making technology more accessible and intuitive over time. From typing complex commands to simply tapping a screen, each shift has brought us closer to seamless, natural interactions with machines.
1. Command Lines (CLIs): The Early Days
The early years of computing were like learning a second language. Every command—every operation—required exact syntax, perfect spelling, and a deep understanding of how machines interpreted human instructions. Only experts could use them efficiently, and users typed precise commands to interact with computers.
2. Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs): A Visual Revolution
At this stage, windows, icons, and menus made computers easier for everyone. We didn’t need to type confusing commands into a terminal just to get things done. GUIs enable us to interact with machines visually and intuitively. The mouse and keyboard replaced memorized commands.
3. Touch-Based Interfaces: The Mobile Era
Users no longer need technical expertise to use their devices. Smartphones and tablets let users interact with just a tap. They just need to understand which apps to use and how to configure settings.
AI-Native Interfaces: The Next Big Leap
Now, AI removes the need for apps. Instead of opening a weather app, you just ask, “What’s the weather today?”
Instead of searching for a calendar app, you say, “Book a meeting with Sarah next Tuesday at 3 PM.”
This shift eliminates app navigation altogether. AI understands requests, processes them, and delivers results. There’s no need to open or switch apps manually.
💡 Investment Insight: Companies that enable seamless AI interactions—from voice AI to multimodal computing—will dominate.
Beyond Apps: Multimodal & Spatial Computing
Future AI interfaces will go beyond text and voice. They will use:
âś… Voice Interaction: Speak naturally, and AI will understand tone, intent, and context. AI assistants will engage in fluid, multi-turn conversations rather than rigid commands.
âś… Gestures: Wave a hand to dismiss notifications, adjust volume, or scroll through content without touching a screen.
âś… Eye Tracking: Scroll, select, or interact with content by simply looking at it. This is already being tested in VR/AR headsets and accessibility tools. One study on eye-gesture control systems achieved a 99.63% accuracy rate in recognizing gestures. It shows that AI-driven interfaces are demonstrating significant potential for high-precision, touchless interactions
âś… Facial Recognition & Emotion AI: AI detects emotions from facial expressions and adapts responses accordingly. This is key for customer service, mental health AI, and personalized user experiences.
âś… Haptic Feedback & Wearable AI: Smart rings, watches, and clothing with touch-based AI interactions provide a more immersive experience. AI can cause devices to vibrate, apply pressure, or change the texture to give feedback without screens.
âś… Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs): Early-stage research into AI reading neural signals is progressing. In the future, thought-driven interactions may replace physical interfaces entirely.
These AI-driven, natural interactions will replace app-based ecosystems, making human-computer engagement as seamless as talking to another person.
đź’ˇ Investment Insight: The companies pioneering AI-native multimodal interaction are shaping the next tech revolution. This is especially true for those working on voice AI, AR, and wearable computing
Investment Implications: The AI-Native Future
As artificial intelligence reshapes digital interactions, the traditional business model would likely face disruptions that give way to AI-native experiences. This shift presents significant investment opportunities in AI-first platforms, infrastructure, and computing power.
The End of App-Based Business Models: Companies relying on app marketplaces may struggle. AI-first interfaces will change how software is monetized.
A Boom in AI-First Platforms: Startups will build AI-native experiences with no traditional apps. Investors should watch AI-powered operating systems.
Infrastructure & Compute Demand: AI-native interfaces require massive cloud and edge computing. Semiconductors, AI chips, and data centers will see increased demand.
Final Thoughts
AI-native interfaces are the biggest shift since mobile computing. Just as the iPhone changed how we use technology, AI will change how we interact with everything.
For investors, the time to act is now. The companies leading AI-native experiences, multimodal interaction, and spatial computing will define the next decade of innovation.
🚀 The question isn’t if AI-native interfaces will take over—it’s how fast.
