Claude broke a math mystery from 1948
Does the six-dimensional sphere admit a complex structure? Mathematicians have fought over that question since 1948, and generations of them failed to settle it.
On Sunday, Anthropic mathematician Levent Alpöge posted the answer.
"Yup."
He says the structure exists, he built it with Claude, and the result is a new geometric object he calls beautiful. Decades of papers had described what such a thing would look like while assuming it was a ghost.
There's no paper up yet, so this stays a first-party claim until other mathematicians grind through the proof.
Nvidia cost less than a coffee ten years ago

Altman says AI's builders made it terrifying
Sam Altman went on David Senra's podcast and aimed the criticism at his own field. Years of extinction talk and job-loss warnings scared everyone, and nobody explained what regular people actually get.
He even did an impression of the industry's pitch so far.
"Dear peasants, we will bequeath upon you these gifts."
He wants AI sold as personal freedom instead and predicts the biggest wave of people starting small businesses ever seen.
He didn't name names. The internet read it as a shot at Dario Amodei, who spent two years warning about disappearing jobs.
His own company paused frontier training over a security scare six days ago.
Anthropic's forbidden model started working
Claude Mythos 5 finds and exploits software vulnerabilities well enough that Anthropic won't sell direct access. Since April, only a small ring of vetted defenders could touch it.
On Friday it got a public job. Claude Security scans now run on Mythos 5 for every Claude Enterprise customer, in public beta, billed as normal tokens. It combs your codebase, ranks each flaw by severity and hands you a suggested patch.
You get the findings without ever talking to the model, so nobody can steer it toward writing exploits. A human approves every fix.
Nobody's paying for the best AI ever made
Ramp watches what American businesses actually spend on AI, and its latest index carries a stat Anthropic won't be tweeting. One month after launch, Fable 5 is 6 percent of the tokens businesses buy from Anthropic and 11.4 percent of the dollars.
Ramp's own write-up calls it the most performant model on the market. It also costs about $10 per million tokens, double GPT-5.6 Sol, and buyers decided the extra brains aren't worth double.
Ramp economist Ara Kharazian calls it the ceiling on what companies will pay for intelligence, with cheaper open-source models climbing up from below.
Anthropic still leads business adoption at 43.5 percent against OpenAI's 39.7.

DeepSeek gave its bargain model eyes: the experimental V4-Flash-Vision-Exp reads images at the same $0.22 per million input tokens, and on DeepSeek's own agent tests it splits 2-2 with Claude Opus 4.8.
OpenAI says Codex did 5 years of work in 2 weeks: Asana used up to four parallel agents to rip out an old testing system for about $12,000 in compute against a $6 million staffing estimate.
China is reportedly simulating American voters: an investigation by journalist Natalie Winters says Fudan researchers built a million synthetic voters from 171 million X posts and a government-linked team tested campaign messages on fake Pennsylvanians.
