📵 Court Forces OpenAI to Pull Ive Deal Video Over Trademark

OpenAI has removed its promotional video and web materials for the $6.5B acquisition of Jony Ive’s startup io following a court order triggered by a trademark dispute with iyO, a Google-backed AI hardware firm.
Details:
iyO filed a lawsuit alleging consumer confusion over the name "io," claiming its own product line, including AI-powered in-ear devices, predates OpenAI’s usage.
Court documents show OpenAI and Ive’s team bought iyO devices, met with its execs, and considered using its tech before ultimately declining to invest or partner.
The judge ordered OpenAI to remove public materials using the “io” name while the trademark case proceeds. OpenAI called the claim “baseless” and is considering legal options.
Internal filings revealed OpenAI and Ive’s team have explored a wide range of device prototypes and not just wearables.
The name dispute might seem minor, but the filings reveal how deeply OpenAI’s team researched and possibly borrowed from rivals like iyO. It exposes how fiercely contested the AI hardware race is becoming, even before a single product hits shelves.
🤖 Google Puts AI in Robots’ Hands — Literally

Google DeepMind has launched Gemini Robotics On-Device, a local AI model that runs directly on robots without cloud access. It brings fast, general-purpose dexterity to real-world machines while solving a key bottleneck in robotics: latency and connectivity.
What’s new:
Runs entirely on-device, enabling low-latency responses even in offline environments.
Performs complex, multi-step tasks like folding clothes or zipping bags across unseen objects and environments.
Trained on ALOHA robots, then fine-tuned to work on bi-arm Franka FR3 and Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid — showing cross-platform flexibility.
Adapts to new tasks with as few as 50 to 100 demonstrations, using Google’s MuJoCo simulator.
SDK now available for trusted testers to begin fine-tuning and evaluation on their own robotic platforms.
Robotics has long promised magic but stumbled over lag and poor generalization. This is Google’s clearest step yet toward real-world AI that works without wires, servers, or scripted demos. Gemini Robotics On-Device shows what it really means to give AI a body.
🗣️ ElevenLabs Debuts Voice Assistant With Real-World Utility

ElevenLabs has released an experimental new assistant, 11ai, designed to go beyond chat. By linking up with tools like Slack, Notion, and Perplexity through Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), the assistant can perform real tasks.
How it works:
11ai connects to Perplexity, Slack, Linear, and Notion to execute tasks through natural voice commands.
Custom workflows can be added by developers using their own MCP servers for non-standard integrations.
Backed by ElevenLabs' stack, the assistant supports over 5,000 voices and offers voice cloning.
The service is free for now, with open access during its early alpha phase to gather user feedback.
Voice assistants have underwhelmed for years, stuck in reactive roles. ElevenLabs is aiming to change that by combining best-in-class speech tech with the ability to do things, not just say them, pushing the assistant from novelty to necessity.
👁️ Reddit May Scan Your Eyeballs to Prove You're Human

Reddit is reportedly in talks with Sam Altman’s Tools for Humanity to integrate the controversial World ID Orb, a biometric iris-scanning system designed to prove human identity without sacrificing anonymity.
Key developments:
Biometric verification would be optional and use encrypted iris scans, with fragmented data stored across global servers
CEO Steve Huffman previously flagged Reddit’s interest in anonymous identity tools to curb bot activity without exposing user identities
Minors under 18 would be blocked from Orb scanning, in line with World ID’s current safety restrictions
World ID provides a cryptographic proof of personhood without collecting personal data
If adopted, Reddit would become the first major US platform to pilot large-scale biometric checks beyond traditional email-based verification
The internet is already flooded with AI bots and platforms are running out of ways to separate real users from synthetic ones. Tools for Humanity, best known for handing out crypto in exchange for eyeball scans, may finally be positioned to go mainstream, thanks to an internet on the brink of being overrun by bots.
