🧬 Ilya Sutskever Takes Over as CEO of Safe Superintelligence

OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever is now leading Safe Superintelligence, following the exit of co-founder and CEO Daniel Gross. The move comes just days after reports that Meta tried to acquire the entire company, now valued at $32B.
Here’s what happened:
CEO shift confirmed: Gross officially left on June 29. Daniel Levy is now president.
Meta’s interest: Zuckerberg allegedly tried to buy SSI outright, and is in talks to hire Gross and Nat Friedman.
Sutskever stays firm: He dismissed acquisition rumors and said the team is focused on “building safe superintelligence.”
One product only: SSI says it has no side projects, no app roadmap, just the singular goal of creating safe AGI.
New pressures: Sutskever now faces CEO-level challenges like hiring, fundraising, and delivering on an extreme mission.
Sutskever launched SSI after helping oust Sam Altman from OpenAI, only to resign himself shortly after Altman’s return. Now, with full control of a singularly focused lab, he’ll either prove the model works or show why no one’s ever pulled it off before.
🍼 AI Helps Couple Conceive After 18 Years

Source: Columbia University.
A couple who had struggled with infertility for nearly two decades is now expecting their first child after an AI system called STAR found just three sperm cells in a sample previously diagnosed as completely infertile. The breakthrough was made at Columbia University Fertility Center, using AI to do what human embryologists couldn’t.
How STAR did it:
New tech, new hope. STAR stands for Sperm Tracking and Recovery, an AI tool adapted from astrophysics algorithms used to find distant stars.
From zero to 44. Technicians found no sperm in two days. STAR scanned 8M images in under an hour and located 44.
World-first pregnancy. Three sperm were used to fertilize eggs. The woman is now pregnant, due this December.
Big savings. STAR’s method costs ~$3K which is far less than the $15K to $30K often required for IVF cycles.
“It took me two days to believe I was actually pregnant,” the woman said. “I still wake up in the morning and can’t believe if this is true or not.” Researchers say the system could unlock new possibilities for men previously told they had no chance at biological parenthood.
🗨️ Meta Chatbots Will Message You First

Meta is now testing AI chatbots that initiate conversations inside Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram marking a shift toward more proactive, persona-driven AI interactions. The bots are being trained to remember past chats and reach out unprompted, all in the name of user engagement.
What the test includes:
Unsolicited outreach. Bots can message users first if the user has sent five messages in the last 14 days.
Quirky personas. Meta is building bots like “The Maestro of Movie Magic,” which sends friendly, themed messages about soundtracks or film recs.
Memory and tone. Partner firm Aligner is helping train bots to remember user context and maintain consistent, conversational styles.
Strict guardrails. Bots can follow up only once per thread and stop messaging if there’s no reply.
Massive upside. Court filings suggest Meta expects $2–3B in AI revenue by 2025 and potentially $1.4T by 2035.
The push mirrors what platforms like Character.AI and Replika already offer: AI companions that behave more like friends than tools. But there's a fine line between helpful and spammy. If Meta crosses it, users may ditch the chat before the bots ever get to their point.
🧠 Mark Cuban Says AI Could Mint the First Trillionaire

Mark Cuban says the world’s first trillionaire won’t come from Wall Street or Silicon Valley but could be “just one dude in the basement” who figures out how to harness AI in a novel way. On the High Performance podcast, the billionaire investor painted a picture of AI as the next great wealth engine, comparable to the rise of PCs and the internet.
Here’s what he said:
“We haven’t seen the craziest of what AI will do.” Cuban believes AI is still in its “preseason” phase.
A trillionaire from nowhere. Cuban predicts one person will unlock an undiscovered AI use case and make more money than any human in history.
Don’t wait on it. He urges everyone to start learning AI tools like Gemini and ChatGPT, even just for asking questions.
But be skeptical. “It’s not actually thinking,” he said. “When it’s wrong, tell it that’s how you make it better.”
Corporate impact is real. Chipotle says AI cut hiring time by 75%, and firms like Duolingo are already replacing contractors with AI.
Still, Cuban acknowledged the downsides: job displacement, AI-driven scams, misinformation, and environmental tolls from power-hungry data centers. The next trillion-dollar breakthrough, Cuban argues, won’t come from playing it safe. It’ll come from experimentation, obsession, and a very fast internet connection.
