Intel Unveils First Ternary Model for Multimodal Understanding
Intel has introduced the LLaVaOLMoBitNet1B, the first ternary model capable of understanding both images and text.
Unlike traditional models that rely on full-precision calculations, this model uses ternary (3-bit) weights, significantly reducing its hardware requirements. This makes it possible to run on more accessible devices.
While ternary multimodal models are still in their early stages, upcoming research will likely focus on developing effective methods to convert existing models to ternary precision.
The LLaVaOLMoBitNet1B and its training resources are freely available.
Netflix Reveals New Strategy for Boosting Long-Term User Satisfaction in Recommendations
Netflix recently shared powerful insights into how they’re tackling the challenge of long-term user satisfaction in their recommendation system.
Traditionally, recommendation algorithms focus on short-term metrics—think clicks or immediate plays.
But Netflix is flipping the script. They recognize that while these metrics matter, they don’t necessarily lead to lasting satisfaction.
Their approach is to prioritize what makes users happy over time, not just in the moment.

New VoicePilot Tool Helps Robots Assist People Better
Carnegie Mellon University has developed a new tool called VoicePilot, which could change how people with motor impairments interact with assistive robots.
VoicePilot uses LLMs to help robots understand and respond to human speech more naturally. The research team tested VoicePilot with a robot called Obi, which helps with feeding.
The goal was for users to give simple, personalized instructions and have the robot carry them out effectively.
