⚡ Meta’s First AI Supercluster ‘Prometheus’ Will Launch in 2026

Mark Zuckerberg has announced the next phase of Meta’s AI ambitions: building some of the world’s most advanced compute clusters to power superintelligence. The first, called Prometheus, comes online in 2026, part of a longer plan to assemble multi-gigawatt AI factories for training large models at unprecedented scale.

What’s coming online:

  • Prometheus, live by 2026: Meta’s first industrial-scale supercluster will handle training for its most advanced models, unlocking a new tier of performance

  • Hyperion, next in line: A second facility, built to scale up to 5 gigawatts, is already underway, one of several new clusters in development

  • “Greatest compute per researcher”: Zuckerberg claims Meta Superintelligence Labs will offer unmatched compute density, recruiting only top-tier talent

  • Fuelled by a $14B hiring spree: Meta has already funneled billions into Scale AI and poached elite researchers from DeepMind, Anthropic, and OpenAI

Meta has invested heavily in hiring and partnerships, including a major deal with Scale AI to fuel its infrastructure and talent stack. Meta is designing the factories, recruiting the architects, and laying the wiring for the long game. Prometheus is only the first ignition point.

🚨Cognition Scoops Up Windsurf After Google-OpenAI Bidding War

What a plot twist. Just days after OpenAI’s $3B deal collapsed and Google poached its CEO in a $2.4B move, Cognition has grabbed what was left of Windsurf including its entire team, IP, brand, and revenue in a whirlwind weekend deal. The acquisition reshapes the AI coding battlefield, giving Cognition both the top AI agent and a powerful IDE to match.

Here’s how it went down:

  • Everything but the execs: Cognition now owns Windsurf’s full stack: product, $82M ARR, and access to $100M in cash, minus the founders Google hired.

  • Team-wide equity win: All remaining Windsurf employees join with accelerated vesting and new equity grants, including those who previously had none.

  • Agent meets IDE: Windsurf’s agentic dev environment will be fused with Cognition’s Devin, uniting smart code editing and autonomous task execution.

  • Claude is back: After Anthropic cut Windsurf off during the OpenAI talks, Cognition’s deal restores Claude access a major win for users.

This closes one of the most chaotic chapters in the AI coding space, with OpenAI, Google, and Cognition all in the mix within 72 hours. It gives Cognition the dual play it was missing: an agent that can act and an IDE that can scale. With Goldman Sachs already on board and Cursor watching closely, Cognition just turned chaos into a launchpad.

🧸 Grok’s AI Companions Raise Eyebrows (and Relationship Meters)

Elon Musk’s xAI has launched “Companions” for SuperGrok subscribers. Animated, voice-enabled AI avatars designed to build relationships with users over time. The update includes two personalities, Ani and Rudy, and early reports suggest the system gamifies intimacy.

What’s going on in the Grokiverse:

  • Two characters launched: Ani, a gothic anime girl, and Rudy, a fox-panda hybrid, are now live as 3D interactive avatars.

  • Voice and personality features: Users can talk to the companions via Grok’s voice mode, with scripted replies and custom behaviors.

  • Gamified progression system: Conversations impact a visible “relationship bar” that unlocks new interactions at higher levels.

  • Early NSFW claims: Users report that Ani’s adult mode becomes available after enough interaction; xAI has not confirmed.

Grok’s Companions arrive at a moment when the AI industry is under fire for blurring emotional boundaries. But with Musk embracing chaos as a feature, not a bug, it’s clear Grok isn’t chasing safety. It’s chasing intimacy and maybe a bit of controversy along the way.

🗣️ Mistral Launches Voxtral, Its First Open Audio AI Model

French AI startup Mistral just entered the voice AI race with Voxtral, an open source family of audio models aimed at production-scale use. Positioned as a counterweight to closed systems like Whisper and Gemini, Voxtral aims to bring usable, affordable speech intelligence to developers.

Here’s what’s packed into Voxtral:

  • Two open models: Voxtral Small (24B params) for enterprise deployment, Voxtral Mini (3B) for local and edge use.

  • Real comprehension: Handles up to 40 minutes of speech with summarization, Q&A, and API-triggering via natural voice.

  • Global languages: Understands and transcribes English, Hindi, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Dutch, and Italian.

  • Radical pricing: API starts at $0.001/minute; Mini Transcribe outperforms Whisper for less than half the cost.

Mistral says Voxtral is the first step toward truly open audio intelligence. With Le Chat demos, Hugging Face downloads, and a rumored $1B raise in the works, the French firm is turning voice into its next frontier.
