Mistral Unveils Large 2

Mistral's new AI model, Large 2, sets a new industry standard, outperforming Meta's Llama 3.1 405B in code generation and mathematical tasks with just 123 billion parameters.

It minimizes hallucination, supports 12 languages and 80 coding languages, and has a 128,000 token window for extensive data processing.

Though not fully open-source, it's accessible on platforms like Google Vertex AI, Amazon Bedrock, Azure AI Studio, and IBM, enhancing commercial use.

Bing Introduces New AI-Powered Search

Microsoft's Bing is testing a new search feature that combines regular search results with AI-generated content.

Using advanced AI, Bing creates dynamic layouts with summaries and related info, aiming to improve user experience.

This feature is currently tested with a small group of users who can give feedback.

Early results show it still leads users to websites, helping keep the web ecosystem healthy.

AI-Powered Dental Care: Pearl Secures $58M in Funding

AI dental startup Pearl has secured $58 million in Series B funding to enhance its AI diagnostic tools, which improve x-ray accuracy and diagnoses in dentistry.

Pearl's software is the first AI to receive FDA clearance for detecting multiple conditions in x-rays and is approved in 120 countries.

The new funding will support advancements like 3D disease tracking, treatment planning, and insurance approvals.

Founder and CEO Ophir Tanz stated, "This funding will help us make AI-powered dental care accessible to everyone."

Pearl's innovations aim to boost efficiency and patient care in dentistry.

AI Aids Writers' Creativity, But At What Cost?

A recent study suggests AI tools like ChatGPT can enhance creativity in less creative writers, though at the expense of producing fewer unique stories.

Led by Prof. Oliver Hauser from the University of Exeter, the research involved 293 participants writing stories with or without AI-generated prompts.

Results showed AI assistance improved the novelty and usefulness of stories, particularly for less creative writers.

However, AI-generated stories tended to be more similar to each other.

Highly creative individuals saw less benefit, indicating AI's greatest value lies in aiding those with lower inherent creativity.

Intel Finally Resolves Long-Standing Desktop CPU Instability

Intel has identified the cause of persistent instability in its 13th and 14th-gen desktop CPUs, promising a patch by mid-August.

Users have reported crashes since late 2022, especially with Unreal Engine 4 and 5 games like Fortnite and Hogwarts Legacy.

The instability stemmed from elevated operating voltage due to a faulty microcode algorithm.

Intel is validating a patch to address these issues.

Highlighted by Sebastian Castellanos and Alderon Games, nearly 100% failure rates in development underscored the problem's severity.

The fix aims to restore user confidence and resolve frustrations.
