The New York Times has signed its first AI licensing agreement, handing over access to its journalism, recipes, and sports coverage to Amazon in a multi-year deal that covers both content use and model training.
Key details:
Content includes news articles, NYT Cooking recipes, and coverage from The Athletic
Amazon will use it across Alexa and other products, with attribution and linkbacks
The deal allows AI training, making Amazon one of the first to officially license NYT data
Marks NYT’s first-ever AI content licensing deal amid ongoing legal battles with AI firms
A significant strategy shift for the NYT, even as it sues OpenAI and Microsoft.
As AI reshapes media discovery and monetization, the old guard is no longer just resisting. They’re now negotiating for a seat at the table, often with the players they trust most. Expect more legacy publishers to follow, and more AI firms to start paying up.

Black Forest Labs has released FLUX.1 Kontext, a powerful AI system that edits and transforms images with simple text prompts while preserving character consistency across iterations and performing edits up to 8x faster than leading models.
Details:
Kontext fuses visual and text inputs, enabling precise, targeted image editing with better understanding of user intent
Excels at character preservation, style transfer, local edits, and consistent outputs over multiple steps
Comes in two versions: Kontext [pro] for fast iterative edits, and [max] for higher-quality output with improved prompt fidelity
Launched alongside Playground, a web-based interface for testing workflows before API deployment
GPT-4o and similar models excel at text-based image editing but still stumble on multi-step consistency and re-rendering. Kontext raises the bar by delivering continuity, speed, and control, a direction that’s increasingly vital as AI design tools expand from novelty to production-grade creative infrastructure.

Intology’s AI agent Zochi has become the first autonomous system to independently publish a peer-reviewed paper at ACL 2025, marking a major leap in AI's ability to conduct high-level scientific research.
Details:
Zochi handled the entire research cycle on its own identifying gaps, designing methods, running experiments, and writing the paper
Its paper on multi-turn jailbreaking (Tempest) scored a 4.0 meta-review, landing it in the top 8.2% of ACL submissions
Only formatting edits were human-led; Zochi did the rest, including implementation and validation
Intology plans to launch Zochi as a research copilot, with full autonomy coming in later phases
AI-generated papers aren't new but peer-reviewed acceptance at an A conference like ACL* is. Zochi didn’t just assist; it competed at the highest level and won. If autonomous agents can produce cutting-edge science, academia is about to enter a phase of acceleration it’s never seen before.

Perplexity has officially launched Labs, a new AI-powered workspace that goes beyond answering questions to building full projects like reports, dashboards, and web apps — all in one place. It’s available now for Pro users across web and mobile.
Details:
Labs runs for up to 10 minutes, autonomously writing code, analyzing data, generating images, and producing structured outputs
Outputs are organized into tabs, separating Assets (charts, files, images) from Apps (interactive web tools and dashboards)
It supports live code execution, prompt-based web browsing, and multi-step workflows for use cases like campaign plans or financial reports
Labs currently works on iOS, Android, and the web, with desktop apps for Mac and Windows coming soon
Perplexity isn’t just chasing Google on search, it’s gunning for Notion, Airtable, Excel, and even low-code dev tools. By shifting from a Q&A engine to a multi-modal execution layer, it’s positioning Labs as a replacement for your entire productivity stack.
