šŗļø YouTube Letās Creators Remix Songs With AI
TechCrunch
YouTube is expanding its AI-driven music creation features for select U.S. creators. Initially, creators could generate songs using artist vocals like Charlie Puth and Demi Lovato through text prompts. Now, YouTube is testing a "Restyle a Track" feature, allowing creators to describe how they want to remix a song's style, generating 30-second snippets for use in Shorts.
This feature uses AI tools like DeepMind's Lyrica model, introduced with the Dream Track feature in late 2023, which also enabled song creation by humming. YouTube attributes remixed snippets to the original track, ensuring transparency through labels and proper crediting.
To navigate potential music industry pushback, YouTube partnered with Universal Music Group
(UMG) to compensate artists and rights holders for AI-generated content. The platform aims to empower creators and artists with innovative tools while fostering new fan interactions and advancing AI technology responsibly.
šÆšµ NVIDIAās role in Japanās Big AI Ambitions
NVIDIA
Japan is striving to become a global AI leader, focusing on advanced language models tailored to its culture and industries like healthcare and manufacturing. In collaboration with NVIDIA and consulting firms, AI innovation hubs are building tailored solutions to boost productivity.
Key technologies like NVIDIA's Omniverse enable virtual testing of AI systems, minimizing risks and optimizing processes, especially in manufacturing and robotics. With its aging workforce, Japan sees AI as essential to bridging labor gaps.
Backed by a $5.9 billion AI market, government support, and partnerships with top cloud providers, Japan is establishing AI supercomputers and hybrid AI-5G networks to lead the next industrial revolution.
š©š° AI-powered Welfare System Fuels Mass Surveillance and Risks Discriminating Against Marginalized Groups
Amnesty International
Amnesty International has raised serious concerns about Denmarkās AI-powered welfare system, operated by Udbetaling Danmark (UDK), accusing it of discriminating against marginalized groups such as people with disabilities, migrants, low-income individuals, and racial minorities. The system uses up to 60 AI algorithms to detect potential fraud, analyzing extensive personal data, including residency status, family relationships, and ties to foreign countries. Amnesty claims this practice is invasive, disproportionate, and perpetuates inequalities.
Algorithms like "Really Single," which flags individuals based on non-traditional living arrangements, and "Model Abroad," targeting those with ties to non-EEA countries, are seen as discriminatory. The report compares the system to a social scoring model and calls for it to be banned under the EUās AI Act. Individuals subjected to investigations report significant psychological stress, describing the constant scrutiny as living "at the end of a gun."
Amnesty urges Denmark to ensure transparency, remove discriminatory parameters, and prioritize human rights. Until these systems are reformed, Amnesty recommends halting their use to safeguard privacy, equality, and fair access to social security.
š„ OpenAI Faces Challenges With Latest AI Model
Dnyuz
OpenAI's latest AI model, Orion, faces challenges with diminishing returns, showing smaller performance gains compared to previous advancements like GPT-3 to GPT-4. While Orion achieved GPT-4-level performance early in its training and excels in language tasks, it struggles in areas like coding, raising concerns about its ability to surpass its predecessors. This highlights broader industry challenges, including limited high-quality training data, which experts predict could be depleted by 2032.
Following a $6.6 billion funding round, OpenAI faces increased pressure from investors to deliver groundbreaking results. To address these challenges, the company is shifting focus toward improving models post-training rather than relying solely on traditional scaling methods. This strategic pivot aims to sustain innovation, but internal pressures, including the departure of key figures, add complexity to OpenAI's efforts to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
